What Should I Do After Botox Treatments?
Botox Recovery Time

A Botox treatment is a non-invasive treatment aimed at reducing wrinkles, lines and other facial signs of aging. As in all other treatments it is necessary that the patient follows the doctor's instructions after this treatment.

Botox injections are used inside specific muscles and an experienced and trained doctor will see to it that only the muscle targeted is injected.

The patient will not even feel that he has been injected, as the needles used are very fine and the muscles targeted are deep lying. There may be slight bruising, redness or tenderness in a few cases. The injection itself has been likened to an insect bite and does not need any painkiller. The procedure takes hardly a few minutes so there is no hospitalization either.

However there may be some tenderness and many patients feel that by using a mild cold compress helps and they feel relieved. Also, the doctor may ask the patient to do a few facial exercises to find out if the injection has been properly given. From the facial exercises the doctor can determine the path of the botox injection and whether it is successful. Care should be taken to see that no pressure or massage is applied at the site of the injection. Some patients may have a few red dots at the site of the injection. This can be hidden by the use of make up. These red dots and any bruising or swelling is reduced within a few hours. Though the patient can actually resume normal work immediately, doctors normally advise a day's rest after the procedure so that no other reactions take place. The doctor will advise the patient against lying down for three to four hours after the treatment and also to avoid any strenuous activity.

The patient should ask the doctor for any special medicines or diet which has to be followed after the treatment. Though this treatment is a simple one, side reactions or any other risk cannot be completely ruled out. The doctor should advise the patient what to do in case of emergency. The only fear is of allergy, which some patients have to any medicines as they have a very sensitive skin. As Botox is not of animal organ, therefore in ninety nine percent of cases, allergic reactions don't take place.

The results of the Botox treatment are evident within a few hours. The lines and wrinkles get ironed out and the patient looks younger and less stressed. This result lasts for about four to six months after which there has to be another follow up but after a few such re treatments, the results are longer.
